FORWARD
“The only magic thing about running is consistency,” he explains. “Consistent competence equals eventual excellence. That's kind of my mantra. So we try to stay healthy so that we can be consistent. We just keep on getting the miles in, getting the workouts in, and over time, good things happen. What was special about 2024? Who knows other than having the right athletes in the right position, the right belief and faith in their parts and goals, and going, ‘Hey, maybe we can do this.’” - Ed Eyestone (Coach to Olympic Marathoners)
As the season settles in, I want to take this moment to wish all of you a joyful holiday. Wherever you find yourself during this time, I encourage you to pause and find stillness and gratitude for where you are today. If you don’t like your current place, commit to changing it. If you’re proud of where you are, own it.
No matter where you stand, gratitude and an abundance mindset have the power to dissolve the minutiae of hang-ups and shortcomings, allowing us to move forward with clarity and purpose.
Reflecting on the Year Gone By
Lately, I’ve been having debriefing and pre-briefing sessions with athletes—looking back on 2024 and framing our approach for 2025. In every conversation, we celebrate the wins and take a hard, honest look at areas where we can improve.
A Year in Review
Looking in the rearview mirror, did this year flow the way you hoped it would? If so, why—or why not?
What is the most honest conversation you need to have with yourself right now? Have it today. Nutrition? Sleep hygiene? Gear investments? Time management? Priorities? Technology? Strength training? Lack of recovery?
If we’re working together, share it with me. This act of vulnerability and reflection can open new doors for your potential.
A Year Ahead
Yes, we’ll plot races and goal events. But let’s also explore the habits and behaviors we need to adopt to show up as better versions of ourselves—whether or not goal races are part of the equation.
I believe success in endurance sports isn’t just measured by race results. Instead, it’s defined by the daily commitment to training and the cultivation of a performance mindset.
If you want to stay in this endurance game for the long haul, balancing sport, life, work, family, and social commitments is key. It takes perspective and a willingness to know when to prioritize self-care and when to apply firm discipline. That balance creates a deeply fulfilling journey—and it serves as a foundation for long-term success.
